TerraPuzzle license

Last updated 2026-10-29

Every puzzle you make with TerraPuzzle is free to use for yourself, at school and for non-profit work. If you sell what you make, or use it in a business, get a TerraPrinter commercial license. It covers TerraPuzzle too. Plans start at $5 a month and are priced by how much you sell.

One license for both sites. TerraPuzzle and TerraPrinter are made by the same team. A TerraPrinter commercial license covers the puzzles you make here, with no extra cost. Sales from both sites count towards your plan's yearly limit.

When you share or sell a puzzle, keep the credit for the data it was made from (listed below). Put it in the listing, the file description, on the box or on a small card. Every download already has it in its README.txt or 3MF file details.

Sharing for free? Also add Made with TerraPuzzle (terrapuzzle.com). Licensed sellers can link buyers to their license page instead, at terraprinter.com/license/check/<your license number>.

Playing is always free

Making puzzles, playing them in the browser, the daily puzzle, the leaderboards and share links are free for everyone, and don't need an account. The license only matters for what you do with the puzzles you print or the files you download.

Credits to keep

Add the line for what you made. Your download names the exact sources it used.

Where the elevation comes from Mapzen Terrain Tiles, the data inside them comes from many national sources. In a long description, such as a product page, add: Mapzen Terrain Tiles include SRTM, GMTED2010 and 3DEP (U.S. Geological Survey), ETOPO1 (NOAA), EU-DEM (Copernicus), and national elevation data from Australia, Austria, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom.

Questions

Can I sell printed TerraPuzzle puzzles?

Yes, with a TerraPrinter commercial license, which covers TerraPuzzle too. Plans start at $5 a month and are priced by how much you sell. Keep the data credits in the listing, on the box or on a small card.

Can I sell the STL or 3MF files themselves?

Yes, with a commercial license. Put the data credits in the listing or description. Every download already carries them in its README and file details.

What is free?

Everything for yourself: puzzles for your home, gifts you give away, teaching and classroom sets, school projects, and non-profit, club, museum and research work. Playing puzzles in the browser and sharing links is always free.

Do I have to credit TerraPuzzle?

When you share puzzles or files for free, yes: a short “Made with TerraPuzzle (terrapuzzle.com)” is enough. Licensed sellers don't have to, though it's welcome. Everyone who shares or sells must keep the data credits.

I already have a TerraPrinter commercial license. Do I need another one?

No. One TerraPrinter commercial license covers what you make on terraprinter.com and terrapuzzle.com. Count sales from both towards your plan's yearly limit.

Can a business use it?

Yes, with a commercial license. It covers the business and everyone who works for it: shops, print farms, tourism and gift shops, event organisers, escape rooms and agencies. Schools, museums and non-profits are free.

Can I sell puzzles of places with famous buildings or logos?

This license covers what TerraPuzzle adds. It doesn't give you rights to other people's trademarks or designs, such as a resort's logo or a protected building. Check before you sell where your country requires it.
